Welcome to Houzzmedia! We are looking at the top 10 celebrities who committed some quite shocking crimes.
You may be surprised as to who made this list. Buckle up!
10. Will Smith
Will Smith. The man who brought us “Fresh Prince” wasn’t always the squeaky-clean guy we know. Back in 1989, when Will was only 20 years young, the incident went down. Just days after he won the first-ever rap Grammy with Jazzy Jeff, Will was arrested for aggravated assault. It all started when he allegedly directed his bodyguard to attack a guy called William Hendricks.
The bodyguard went way overboard, and Hendricks ended up with a fractured eye socket. Will was charged with aggravated assault, conspiracy, and a few other things before the charges were forgiven and forgotten.
Not long afterward, he packed up and moved to Los Angeles-and the rest is history.
9. Lindsay Lohan
The one and only Lindsay Lohan comes next. Who can forget her as Cady Heron in Mean Girls? But boy, did her real life ever mirror a Hollywood fairytale. In 2007, Lindsay’s troubles started when she crashed her car in Beverly Hills and got arrested on DUI charges. And that was barely it.
Two weeks later, she received another DUI charge, plus cocaine possession. From there, she spiraled down: rehab stints, probation violations, court appearances-she did it all. At one point, she even got kicked out of rehab for hooking up with one of the staff members on hand. Yikes.
These days, it looks as though things are on the up-and-up for the young girl. One hopes that girl stays on track!
8. Hugh Grant
Back in the ’90s, while working on a movie in LA, Hugh did a really stupid thing. He pulled over on Sunset Boulevard and paid a prostitute, Divine Brown, $60 for oral sex.
A cop knocked on the window and caught him right in the middle of things. How embarrassing! But then, as if sent from heaven, the miraculous turn of events managed to get Hugh bouncing back and saving his career.
7. Justin Bieber
By 19, Bieber started making headlines for every reason other than his music. Getting busted with drugs and a stun gun in Sweden to egging his neighbor’s house-which cost him $81,000 in damages!- the Biebs were out of control.
We loved watching his wild antics, but we weren’t sure he would ever get his act together. But believe it or not, he did. Nowadays, Bieber’s turned over a new leaf: focusing on music and his relationships. Let’s hope he stays this way.
6. Bill Cosby
From Icon to Infamy The mere mention of this name creates a storm: Bill Cosby. From being loved by millions, the fall of this great comedian was when over 50 women accused him of rape.
The allegations go as far back as the ’60s, and shockingly, for year’s nothing was done. Cosby allegedly drugged and then assaulted women, leaving them unconscious, where he took advantage of them.
It’s shocking how long this went on without repercussions. While he avoided jail for years, the public’s perception of him has been forever tarnished.
5. Jay-Z
Jay-Z’s sitting on top of the world now, but his past is a lot darker than you may think. He’s rapped about it before, but perhaps you didn’t know he once shot his own brother.
A teen Jay-Z worked as a drug dealer in New York, and in 1999 he was involved in a nightclub altercation that led to him stabbing a record executive. Initially, he was charged with attempted murder, but Jay-Z pleaded down to a misdemeanor.
That would have derailed his career there if he hadn’t gone on to build an empire.
4. OJ Simpson
Most-watched Trial of the Century Coming in at number 4, the one and only OJ Simpson. In 1994, OJ’s ex-wife Nicole Brown and her friend Ronald Goldman were brutally murdered.
All evidence pointed to OJ, and the infamous Ford Bronco chase was watched by millions. After a 17-month trial, OJ was acquitted of the murders but public opinion remains divided. Fast forward to 2008, and OJ was behind bars once again, this time for armed robbery and kidnapping.
He’ll be eligible for parole soon, but his legacy will never be the same.
3. Matthew Broderick
Many know him for his fun-loving character Ferris Bueller, but real life wasn’t all fun and games for the actor in 1987.
While on vacation in Ireland with actress Jennifer Grey, Broderick accidentally drove on the wrong side of the road and collided into another car. Two people, a mother and daughter, were killed in the crash.
Broderick was charged with reckless driving but got off lightly with just a $125 fine. It’s sad and haunting for him in the chapter of his life.
2. Mike Tyson
A Fall from Grace One of the most feared boxers in history, Mike Tyson reached the pinnacle of his boxing career only to have his life in his chosen career derailed by a horrid crime.
Tyson was convicted in 1992 of raping an 18-year-old contestant in a beauty pageant. He received six years in prison, reportedly serving three years. Tyson never regained his career momentum and has spoken candidly about his battles with addiction and self-destruction.
It’s hard not to reflect on what could’ve been had he stayed on the straight and narrow.
1. Mark Wahlberg
A Violent Youth Coming in at number 1, we’ve got Mark Wahlberg. Before he was America’s sweetheart, Wahlberg was a bit of a delinquent teenager. At 16, he viciously attacked a Vietnamese man in a racial attack that left the man permanently blinded in one eye. Wahlberg himself served 45 days in jail serving his time for the crime.
Isn’t it incredibly amazing how he got his life together to become one of the most bankable stars in Hollywood? Still, his past is a reminder of how far he has come. That concludes today’s top 10! Who on this list surprised you?
